A ritual annually renewed

When October comes, as every year since 1938, Villa Corliano conducts its autumn ritual: the wonder of the grape harvest. Between the vineyards and the wine cellar, many people busily enact the timeless gestures that begin the transformation of ripe grapes into delicious wines. The long table in the dining room fills with voices and emotions, while gentle breezes carry grape perfumes through the windows, and harvesters give thanks to heaven and earth.

Finally, we want to tell you about an important exhibition, of which we are proud supporters, “Raphael in the light of Lorraine. The nineteenth-century copy of the Madonna del Granduca ”, in collaboration with Le  Gallerie degli Uffizi. 2019 vintage: an excellent year at Villa Corliano

The harvest ended with October and the slow process of transformation of the grapes into fine wines began. The first analyzes carried out on the musts are revealing that this year the vintage is excellent as the intensity of the color and the great structure of the red grape pulp show; all characteristics attributable to superior wines. The white grapes are distinguishing by the potential of their aromas and the sapidity of the taste, typical of high-quality whites.
The important results of Villa Corliano are the out-turn of a long and intense work of the vineyards preparation throughout the year starting from the Summer pruning, the selection of the best grapes for maturation, up to the exact identification of the moment of the grape harvest.
We began picking Syrah and Foglia Tonda, two varieties that ripen early September, we continued with Canaiolo and Sangiovese grapes, and we ended harvesting Cabernet Sauvignon.
The quality of the wines has always been our primary goal and for this, also this year, the yield of our vineyards has been lower than the average in Tuscany. With the same aim we also cultivate dated vineyards to which we carry out, with great patience and skill, continuous modifications in order to obtain wines of superior quality to the average of the territory.
Even if the fermentation phase and the subsequent refinement will be decisive, we can say that the 2019 vintage is one of the excellent years!

The pleasure of welcoming

Thanks to our participation at the International Gourmet Food Montréal, we have established several relationships with Canadian importers and distributors who have been fascinated by the quality of our wines and our history. Precisely this great interest has prompted us to host some importers into our estate, to let them experience our world of simplicity and rigor, our care in everything we do to fully understand the authenticity of our wines.
The incoming was planned in order to match with the harvest period because it is the most characteristic and lively moment of the year, particularly animated with a bustle of people and activities from the vineyards to the cellar. The Canadian guests were very impressed by our ancient, full of respect and love gestures which, in perfect harmony with tradition, give birth to excellent wines. The typicality of our vineyards has also aroused great interest because of their natural features that allow the production of high-quality wines. Appreciation was also given to autochthonous denominations such as Sangiovese and the rare Foglia Tonda.
During their stay, the Canadian friends were able to know us better, to fully understand our values and to enjoy the culinary delicacies of Tuscany accompanied with the excellent Villa Corliano’s wines.
This was our first incoming experience, but despite the bit of initial apprehension, we really have enjoyed learning more about Albert, Dominique, Gerard, Claire, Vivienne, Charles and Claude. We are pleased to have started building, both from a professional and personal point of view, important relationships with them. Thank you for this beautiful experience, we will surely repeat it!

Villa Corliano sponsors the exhibition “Raffaello in luce lorenese”

The one of Villa Corliano is an ancient tradition of winemaking, suited to the territory, authenticity, elegance and to refinement of a wise balance between form and content. It is the teaching of our Renaissance, of the idea of Renaissance as an emblem of perfection, both human and emotional. For this, we are happy to have contributed to the exhibition “Raffaello in luce lorenese. The nineteenth-century copy of the Madonna del Granduca ” that will be hosted in the Sala dell’Affresco of the Palazzo Comunale of Signa from November 23rd to December 8th 2019. The exhibition, promoted by the Municipality of Signa and the Association of International Exchanges of Signa, in collaboration with the Uffizi Gallery and sponsored by Villa Corliano is a must-visit! An opportunity not to be missed. It will be opened every morning, holidays included, and Tuesday afternoons.

Raphael certainly needs no introduction. One of the most famous painters and architects of the Renaissance, considered one of the greatest artists of all time, with his hand, Raphael is “a mannerism” that has guided the artistic paths of all subsequent painters in an essential way and has shaped the artistic language of the centuries to come.

The Madonna del Granduca, dated 1504, is an extremely sweet scene, of extraordinary balance between the divine manifestation and humanization of the subject: the relationships between the volumes, the disposition of the subjects, are perfectly balanced in the intimate, albeit measured, interaction between the two . This work weighs on sentimental and devotional implications, in the name of a pictorial movement that revolutionizes the concept of the world and of oneself: the perspective, the man understood as an anatomical and pulsating individual of emotions, the return to essentiality.

It is an honor for Villa Corliano to associate its name with this initiative. Thanks to everyone who made it possible.

Cursore
SANGIOVESE – FOGLIA TONDA
Toscana Indicazione Geografica Tipica

The pure strength and elegance of Cursore takes shape from the fascinating encounter between two great traditional Tuscan vines. The Sangiovese and Foglia Tonda grapes are grown on the top of a gentle hill overlooking the course of the Arno, an area with a particular microclimate which has always been used to produce the highest quality grapes. The wine seduces the senses in all its splendour and conquers them with its complex and elegant rounded taste, both soft and structured. Gran Cru balance and personality.
