A land devoted to beauty

Villa Corliano is located a few kilometres from Florence within the prized Chianti Colli Fiorentini wine area, where the Arno, flowing at the foot of these silent hills, slowly winds through twisting valleys as it marks the boundary with the equally important wine denomination of Carmignano. From the top of these gentle slopes impregnated with history and the art of winemaking, you can admire the city of Florence and breathe the timeless air as you stroll through vineyards and olive groves of extraordinary beauty.

Emotion and satisfaction

The participation of Villa Corliano at the 4th Annual International Gourmet Food Montréal, one of the main Food & Beverage events entirely dedicated to the excellence of Made in Italy, has just concluded with great participants’ interest. Our company, thanks to the quality of our wines and the style of our packaging, was the only one selected to represent Tuscany at the event along with other small winemakers from different Italian regions. It was our first outing in Canada. The excitement that accompanied us before and during the event, soon turned into satisfaction for the appreciation we received; professional congratulations of importers, distributors and restaurateurs and enthusiastic appraisal of consumers. Our bottles standing out for their minimal and elegant packaging, attracted the interest of those present. At tasting, our Chianti Colli Fiorentini Briccole 2017 was particularly appreciated. Thanks to its sensory characteristics, professionals found it very reminiscent of Chianti Classico. Our Supertuscan Ghirigoro 2015 has instead impressed with its full-bodied structure, balance, personality and, above all, for its feature of evoking the essence of Tuscany, which make it distinctive and unique. We are excited about Canada, about how it welcomed us (the location of the event was in the heart of Canada’s largest Italian community) and for the opportunities that this experience has created. Let’s go back to our beloved Tuscany with the memory of a wonderful Canadian experience that, we are sure, will be the first of a long series.

News from Villa Corliano

Excellent results for all our wines in Luca Maroni’s ” Annuario dei migliori vini Italiani 2020″.

The tasting files and comments that Luca Maroni, the most famous sensory analyst and great oenologist, will publish in the Yearbook of the best Italian wines 2020, have already been made public. Our Dedicato Vinsanto Colli Etruria Centrale 2009 awarded 96 points and was defined by the author “… amazing sweet wine, among the best Italians tested this year”. Excellent scores have also been obtained by all other wines in our range with comments that fill us with pride: “A very rich glass and the son of a great sun, the sun of Villa Corliano. Italobianco 2016 is the deep proof of its qualities of exceptional extraction.
Thus, among the reds, the powerful Chianti Briccole Riserva 2015, Chianti Colli Fiorentini Briccole 2017, softer and more balsamic. Focused on the elegance and the stainless clarity of its fragrances, Cursore 2016 proves to be very pleasant to drink. Ghirigoro Toscana Igt 2015, balsamically spicy, is a fleshy and powerful Supertuscan. The best one is Vinsanto Dedicato Colli Etruria Centrale 2009, among the best Italian sweet wines tested this year. An explosive mass of spices and grapes that, with its unusual power and rare clarity, gives the receivers its treasure of crystalline aroma and mood. Chapeau”.
The excellent marks that Luca Maroni awarded to all our wines witness the quality of the work we have done so far both in the vineyard and in the cellar and strengthen our belief that quality is the best way to respect our land.

A new vineyard for an ancient vine: welcome Lecceto!

With the aim of both quantitative and qualitative production growth, two years ago we decided to increase our vineyard and the Lecceto adventure got started. First of all, we selected a vine that was suitable for our production needs and for the soil peculiarities. After a careful evaluation, the choice fell on Foglia Tonda. This native vine, which adapts very well to our territory, had already been tested in our company with excellent results in the past. Its red berries guarantee a rich phenolic content, good acidity and, above all, an excellent aging potential. A few years ago, the cultivation of Foglia Tonda was disappearing due to the advent of international vines such as Merlot and Cabernet which give greater sweetness and softness to the Sangiovese, but at the same time are likely to distort the typicality of wines. The tests we did inhouse have confirmed that the union with Sangiovese not only provides an excellent wine, but also make it suitable for an in-wood-ageing where it acquires refinement and elegance.
The choice of the most suitable soil was reserved the same care. Trusting on our experience, we have identified the land that could be suitable for the cultivation of Foglia Tonda. Thanks to its exposure, microclimate and composition of the soil and after several inspections carried out by a team of technicians, Lecceto, a land naturally suitable, was chosen for the planting of the new vineyard. This plot of about 2500 sq. m. is located on a hill. It has a slope from east to west, and it is therefore irradiated by the sun all day avoiding however the direct insolation in the central hours. From the chemical-physical analysis, the soil has resulted loose and well drained and, at about 80cm depth, galestro was found. Galestro consists of a very friable clayey schist whose disintegration, under the action of rain and sun, allows the release in soil of precious mineral elements to the vine. Before being destined to vineyard, Lecceto was an olive orchard and with the aim of preserving the trees, we have replanted them along the perimeter with the root-ball method in order to have the best care for the plants.
Works continued with the trenching of the ground up to a meter deep. Now the soil will be left exposed to the action of atmospheric agents until mid-November to allow its disintegration and the subsequent refinement operations in view of the planting of the shoots. This new small vineyard represents for Villa Corliano an important effort that will result not only in a slight production increase, but mainly in a significant characterization of the wines in the name of tradition and typicality.

Italorosso
SANGIOVESE – SYRAH
Toscana Indicazione Geografica Tipica

Italorosso is created by separately vinifying Syrah and Sangiovese grapes, the latter a prince of Tuscan tradition. Its rounded body blended with Syrah’s spicy notes combine exquisitely with the volume and red fruit harmonies typical of Sangiovese: the outcome is a wine with a clear and elegant structure that enchants the senses with its velvety softness.
